Why?

This website is the business end of the Techskeptic Internet Empire! Yah Ha Ha! I'm going to take over the world!

As you can see from my blog, I'm pretty mesmerized by the amount of nonsense in the world that we are inundated with every single day. Even 'respectable' news and science channels are diluted with total nonsense and shows that take away from our general knowledge.

So much of this nonsense is tired, old, and uses the same arguments that have been used for decades, its time to try to advance the debates. For example the Global warming deniers have been using that same tired arguments, the same data, for the last 20 years without acknowledging new technologies, new measurements, or the way that models work.

The creationists have been using the same old tired excuses as argument for the last 150 years, only recently repackaging it as a new science. This sort of lazy thinking leads to other aspects where people get taken in. We buy things based on rumor of quality rather than quality, ridiculous government studies are advanced by people who are simply ignoring previous data.We go to war based on no evidence. All this simply wastes our money, time, and literally kills people.

On this site I am trying to provide tools to advance the discussion forward. If its a topic that has gone on for decades, I probably will have a bingo game ready for it eventually for you to take to a speech or movie to see how these tired arguments get recycled over and over.

Or I may provide simple answers to stupid products on the market. The simple answer will show how a more simple, more banal solution is better than the ridiculous claim of the snake oil salesman.

I am fully aware that I am writing in a dark little corner of the internet, and that my efforts are only a very small contribution. I hope my efforts, will allow other poeple to join in easier, that is all. Every little bit helps.

Buying Things

I'm just a dude with a computer who hates the spread of pseudo-science and  woo. I have no hallucinations that I am going to get rich doing this. I hope people laugh and try some of the stuff out and use it to help reduce nonsense.

So I am asking you to donate some money that goes towards the product. The topical bingo cards are free if you like, but I hope you will throw a few bucks at me to help keep this site up and to provide new products. However when I get to hardware, I will probably have to take in money before I have things built. If I dont get enough money to build the item, the money given will go to charity. I am not going to return every individual money, but I won't keep it either.

If you are going to copy something for free I'd rather you just get it from me. When you pay for something, about 50 cents for every 5 dollars goes toward the credit card fees (a smaller percentage if you donate more), I cant really help that. I have some minimal costs for domain management, and other assorted little things. After that I intend on donating to the charities to the right. So just consider that throwing me a few bucks can't hurt and could help, while hopefully you get something useful. Also if you are going to download more than one item, please just pay more for one of the items rather than paying the minimum for multiple items, this will reduce the total amount that is paid towards the credit card company, and maximize what will go to the charity.

Please vote for your favorite of the ones I chose. I will divide any extra money I get from this website and donate it to the charities in the proportions that they are voted for. For charities like Kiva and DonorsChoose, you are just going to have to trust me to put it towards projects I think are useful. I will reset this poll every six months, or if donations come to 10,000 (heck I can dream can't I?)

What if it doesn't work for you?

Look, I'm not a software house. I have no staff, no infrastructure for accounts payable or receivable, and basically no return policy. The software is free. If it doesnt work for you and you gave a donation, just know that most of your donation is going to charity and lets call it good. Cool?

However I am more than happy to respond to constructive emails abou tthe quality, or substance of anything I provide here. Any comment like "This is stupid junk!" will just be ignored.

Thanks,

-Tech
